SAMLA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Southern Arizona Mortgage Lenders Association ("SAMLA") started its scholarship program over 20 years ago. We started very small with one or sometimes two scholarships awarded each year.
We formalized our scholarship program in 1995 when we set up specific eligibility requirements with the University of Arizona and added Pima Community College to our program.
The students that we select meet or exceed all of our eligibility requirements.
University of Arizona Scholarship eligibility requirements:
- Junior, Senior, or graduate student in the Eller College of Management
- GPA of 3.00 or better
- Financial need
- Arizona Resident
The Pima Community College Scholarship eligibility requirements are similar with the exception that Pima is a two-year program so Junior or Senior status is not required.
SAMLA has scholarship fundraising activities throughout the year including selling raffle tickets at our monthly lunch meetings and at our annual Holiday Party. Our annual Holiday Party at the Gas Light Theatre, which is our major scholarship fundraiser, is a sell out every year.
The awarding of scholarships is a very tangible way for our members to give back to a community that has been good to our industry.
